Honeywell’s Profit® Blend Controller helps users control the in-line blending of materials in accordance with blend recipe specifications. It is ideally suited for gasoline blending, distillate blending and fuel oil blending, but can also be used for crude blending and chemical blending applications. Through improved blend accuracy, it reduces re-blends, increases blender throughput, and minimizes component giveaway.

Profit Blend Controller (PBC) manages the blend component mixing from start to finish to meet flow ratio, volume ratio or property specifications. Its key features include:

  • Automatic start-up, operation and shutdown of the blender and associated equipment.

  • Recipe validation.

  • Master flow rate setpoint flow control.

  • Blend flow rate and volume control.

  • Pacing of the blend flow rate.

  • Blend header pressure control.

  • Maintenance of component percentages and additive concentrations as per blend recipe.

  • Blend report generation.

  • Redundant operation.

  • Optional ratio-only control for basic blending control in applications where property control isn’t required (e.g., bitumen blending and chemicals).

Profit Blend Controller runs on the Experion® PKS architecture for distributed control of the field equipment used in blending and movement. It offers the following capabilities:

  • Blend equipment and flow control: Once the blend recipe is validated and an operator chooses to start a blend, PBC starts the component and additive pumps in a configured sequence, and manages the opening of flow controllers.

  • Blend report generation: PBC automatically generates a new blend report each time a blend is started or closed, and whenever the blend destination is changed in a running blend

  • Blender header pressure control: PBC supports specification of header pressure for each blend state.

  • Integration with Honeywell applications: PBC is a key component of Honeywell’s Profit Blending Suite, which is part of the Profit Blending and Movement solution.

  • Interface with non-Honeywell applications via OPC and XML.

Profit Blend Controller offers the following benefits:​

  • Increased consistency of blend results through in-line blending.

  • Reduced blending setup and execution time and increased blender throughput by automatic equipment sequencing and control.

  • Fewer reblends, and reduced inventory through accurate control of component ratios according to the blend recipe.
