Honeywell’s Profit® Blend Optimizer is used by refinery operations personnel for online blend reformulation and optimization. It controls and optimizes the operation of in-line blenders used for a wide variety of applications, including gasoline blending, distillate blending and fuel oil blending.

Control and Optimize In-line Blending Operations

Profit Blend Optimizer is part of the Profit Blending and Movement family of applications. Used by refinery operations personnel, it enables efficient blending of products to the required specifications while optimizing the blend operation. It, therefore, supports the refinery’s key objective of reducing product giveaway cost effectively.

For any given product, the choice of components and their relative quantities is determined by product specifications, component costs, component availability and component specifications. Profit Blend Optimizer uses sophisticated optimization techniques to determine optimal component usage and control of in-line blenders, allowing operations to efficiently blend fuels and meet environmental compliance norms.

Profit Blend Optimizer uses a nonlinear optimizer that executes at every control interval to adjust the blend recipe based on analyzer feedback. The problem statement for the optimizer is contained in the recipe information. Used primarily for refinery operations, its basic blending objectives include property control, optimizing inline blenders, minimum cost, minimum giveaway and minimum distance (deviation from the scheduler’s original recipe or from high or low component limits).

The application executes blend optimization in multiple sequential stages wherein each succeeding stage preserves the optimum blend recipe achieved in the previous stage, while using any remaining degrees of freedom to optimize for an additional objective. Profit Blend Optimizer is built on industry standard Microsoft Windows technology and communicates via OPC to any OPC-compliant distributed control system (DCS).

Profit Blend Optimizer provides an effective solution for model-based product property control and blend reporting. It efficiently blends fuels to the required product quality specifications while optimizing the formulation of blend components. Some of its key benefits include:
