Honeywell’s industry-leading SmartCET® line of corrosion transmitters provides plant operators and corrosion specialists with near-instantaneous, highly-accurate measurements of both general and pitting corrosion activity. This information can help users proactively manage corrosion, better understand active corrosion damage mechanisms, and optimize process operation to maximize asset life expectancy.

Honeywell’s SmartCET corrosion monitoring technology uniquely provides online, real-time corrosion information directly to the plant control system using industry-standard ISA100 wireless technology or via wired 4-20mA current-loop signal with digital HART protocol. SmartCET technology is designed to enable operators to

  • Measure general and pitting corrosion accurately, online, and in real-time

  • Analyze the effect of process upsets on the corrosion performance of plant materials of construction, enabling informed decision making from a process optimization and mitigation planning perspective

  • Reduce cost of maintenance by moving from scheduled to reliability-centered maintenance

  • Optimize process chemical and inhibitor dosing to minimize corrosion damage

  • Maximize safety and reliability by minimizing the effects of process upsets and excursions.

SmartCET corrosion monitoring technology is the combination of multiple electrochemical techniques into one measurement, collectively referred to as ‘Super LPR’. Onboard digital signal processing employing advanced non-linear analysis techniques enables SmartCET to directly calculate the Stern-Geary constant (‘B’ value). This greatly increases the measurement accuracy and helps differentiate between general corrosion and localized corrosion through the use of a simple pitting factor.

Corrosion information is continuously updated on a minute-by-minute basis and displayed directly in the plant control system to help plant operators address plant corrosion problems proactively.

Understanding real-time corrosion performance along with process variables provides operators better visibility into their plant that can enable immediate benefits such as:

  • Process optimization: Run plant at increased throughput

  • Optimized chemical treatment: Reduction in inhibitor costs, direct assessment of inhibitor dosage and efficiency

  • Reduced routine inspection frequency: Allows personnel to better prioritize maintenance activities

  • Improved safety and reliability by reducing unplanned outage.
