Honeywell’s Virtual Engineering Platform (VEP) provides a secure, centrally hosted cloud environment to execute industrial automation projects. Now, testing and project execution can be done from anywhere in the world.

The VEP is a private cloud operated from three Honeywell data centers with a total capacity equivalent to 15,000 virtual machines (VMs). Honeywell engineers have access to all the tools inside this cloud environment to virtually implement an industrial user’s real world automation control system. The cloud platform also allows for collaboration with other Honeywell engineers and provides access to users to complete testing. Once the project is approved, the virtual machines are moved from the private cloud to the user’s virtual system for deployment.

Once a project is set up in the VEP, all stakeholders can interact inside a common engineering environment, regardless of their location. After a Honeywell automation engineer has finished engineering in the cloud, users can begin testing. Users can connect to the VEP via a secure VPN tunnel into their own project, and are then able to run a set of tests from their own site with a Honeywell engineer or with engineers who could be on the other side of the world.

With users' approval, the project can be moved from the virtual machines on the private cloud to an on-premises virtual system for final deployment. This is all done without having to redeploy the virtual machine.

The VEP offers a variety of improvements, in addition to reductions in time, equipment, and travel costs:

  • Centralized engineering hardware, reducing local IT and project staging costs

  • Delayed equipment purchase for target computing hardware

  • Earlier start of configuration activities

  • Reduced travel, deployment time and labor

  • Consistent project environment, reducing costly rework and avoiding non-value added installation activities

  • Reduced schedule risk and faster time to production.

Training, maintenance and support are critical aspects to consider when choosing a technology partner. Honeywell offers world-class training through our Automation College as well as comprehensive maintenance and support services designed to leverage your physical and intellectual assets and help you sustain and increase their value and performance over time.
