​Honeywell’s Profit® Loop incorporates the best elements of traditional PID algorithms and model-based advanced control and optimization technologies to address all loop control needs. It delivers greater profitability, reliability and safety with the lowest cost of ownership.

​Profit Loop is Honeywell’s patented algorithm that provides a single input/single output (SISO) model-predictive function block. A one stop solution for all loop control needs, it uses a simple model of the process to predict the effect of past, present and future control moves on the process variable. Designed with the operating simplicity and computational efficiency of a standard PID function block, it provides tight and robust advanced control to increase process stability by up to 30 percent.

Ideally suited for applications with noisy process signals, long time delays, or inverse response dynamics, Profit Loop eliminates the difficulty of tuning PID parameters with a single variable to loop control response. With resource usage comparable to that of a PID controller, it can be cost-effectively applied to replace every loop in the plant and address all loop control needs.

​As part of Experion PKS, every loop in the plant can be implemented as a Profit Loop control in C300 and C200 / C200E controllers or within the Application Control Environment (ACE). Profit Loop provides the necessary tools to design, implement, and maintain SISO model-based loops, making both implementation and maintenance simple when it comes to advanced control and optimization. Furthermore, its proprietary implementation simplifies computations, allowing hundreds of loops to run simultaneously within a single controller.

Its range control capability, derived from Honeywell’s patented Range Control Algorithm (RCA), helps determine the smallest process moves required to meet both advanced control and optimization objectives. It offers easy loop control with single knob tuning to do away with individual adjustments to gain, reset and derivative times.

Unlike PID controllers, Profit Loop does not overcorrect in case of slow reacting processes and therefore, delivers improved and advanced control performance that is robust in nature. Moreover, users benefit from up to four percent increase in production rates, improved product quality, lower valve maintenance and valve travel, easy loop control with single knob, reduced energy and production costs and an increase in plant efficiency by up to five percent. ​
