With the changing face of process control technology, it is vital to upgrade your process control systems to stay ahead of the competition. Honeywell’s migration solution for Bailey systems made by ABB is designed to protect user investments in existing technology, while enabling users to take advantage of the additional benefits of Experion PKS.

Experion® Process Knowledge System (PKS), is the only process automation system designed to unify business, people, process and assets. Experion takes process automation well beyond distributed control system (DCS) functionality with an advanced process automation platform solution and innovative application integration designed to improve business performance. Users can opt for an appropriate migration plan based on requirements to improve business performance, from full migration to Experion or replacement of Bailey HMI retaining Bailey Controllers and I/O with an incremental migration. Users can also access HART information using Honeywell’s migration kits and Experion HART I/O modules.

The migration process begins with upgrading operator stations to improve efficiency. Experion controllers are then integrated with existing Bailey controllers. Using the standard Experion configuration tools, the user interface which serves as a common interface for data originating from Bailey and the Experion controller is configured. Web-enabled Experion stations substitute the proprietary Bailey consoles. The Experion user interface enables the Bailey function block configurations through Bailey-oriented detailed displays, and faceplates appear similar to that from Experion controller function blocks. Bailey data can be accessed from any Experion user interface with minimum configuration.

Adapting to changing process control technology can be a challenge. Companies must weigh the cost of migration against the benefits that upgraded process control systems offer. Upgrading to Experion PKS from Bailey systems can enable a 30% reduction in maintenance costs, and up to a 40% reduction in batch cycle times among a host of other benefits.
