New Honeywell Compact Scanner Helps Paper And Flat Sheet Manufacturers Drive Quality More Profitably

Experion® MX Q6088 Compact Scanner merges 50 years of scanning measurement experience with cutting-edge cloud technology to reduce total cost of ownership.

THE HAGUE, Netherlands, Sept. 24, 2019 -- Honeywell today announced the launch of its new Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT)-enabled Experion® MX Q6088 Compact Scanner. It is specifically designed for paper producers, flat sheet manufacturers and original equipment manufacturer (OEM) machine vendors with demanding measurement and control performance requirements, providing a cost-effective solution for producers that require few measurements.

Incorporating five decades of Honeywell experience providing equipment for harsh paper and flat sheet machine environments, the new scanner delivers high-performance measurement, reliability, and low total cost of ownership in a compact form factor that fits tight machinery spaces. Its IIoT-enabled design simplifies all aspects of lifecycle service and production optimization through Honeywell QCS 4.0, a software-as-a-service quality control offering.

“For years, paper manufacturers and OEMs have purchased more complex scanners than necessary for many of their quality control needs, resulting in considerable, unwarranted technology investments,” said Paul Baker, product manager for quality control system scanners and sensors, Honeywell Process Solutions. “The Q6088 gets the job done with the performance and precision customers expect from Honeywell, with best-in-class sensors, a compact and environmentally protected design, and 24/7 reliability.”

The Experion MX Q6088 Compact Scanner’s innovative design supports a broad portfolio of high-performance sensors, including combined weight and moisture measurement with Honeywell’s MXIR infrared sensor technology. For many applications, this means eliminating the need for a nuclear source. The Q6088 compliments Honeywell’s quality control system for the paper industry -- Experion® MX’s -- advanced multivariable machine direction and cross direction controls for consistent quality and fast production transitions. It is suitable for most paper and flat sheet manufacturing processes, including tissue, board and coating lines.

The scanner leverages Honeywell’s QCS 4.0, which transforms data into actionable insights for improved process quality and production performance. The cloud-based solution continuously monitors scanner and sensor health, production quality, and control/process performance, delivering a “call to action” to stakeholder mobile devices. QCS 4.0 securely connects critical production assets to Honeywell cloud analytics. Access anytime, anywhere from any device enables effective maintenance, performance management, and expert-guided production optimization regardless of the level of worker skills available at the site.

Honeywell made the announcement at its 2019 Honeywell Users Group EMEA, which is taking place September 23-26 in The Hague, Netherlands. More than a thousand delegates from 47 countries are attending the roundtables, customer and technology sessions presented under the theme of “Reveal your best. Data. Insights. Outcomes.”
